Oasis in Remotest Dartmoor, with Hot Tub

Picture
Totally secluded, comfortable oasis,  surrounded on all sides by rugged high moor. Get completely away from the real world - for outdoor adventures, or simply relax and unwind, with your dog if you wish.

This B&B has the feel of a very friendly and relaxed four star country house hotel, where nothing is too much trouble.  Until recently it was the private home of a polar explorer.

Uniquely situated on a dead-end lane leading to nowhere, there is nothing to disturb you or wake you up, save the neighing of the ponies on the moor outside the garden gate.

We believe we are currently the only B&B on the high moor with its own hot tub!

Included is a scrumptious substantial breakfast of best quality local produce, cooked to order, and served in your bedroom, the kitchen, the elegant dining room, or the sitting room - whichever you prefer. Bacon, sausages, eggs and home-made jam and marmalade from friends' local farms, bread and croissants hand-baked just down the road, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs if that's what you like best.  Juice complete with bits.

A much loved, spacious family home in its own seven acres, with deep pile carpets, heavy curtains, squashy sofas, original paintings, photographs, old rugs and antiques. 100% Egyptian cotton bedlinen, fluffy towels, luxury toiletries, antique gold-rimmed porcelain, ground coffee, fresh milk, various teas, TV and internet access in each room.

The three ensuite bathrooms all have baths with showers, and the biggest, with its view across the garden to the field beyond, also has a bidet and shower cubicle, a fireplace, and a combi trouser press.

Superb three course dinner in elegant dining room, or relaxed kitchen/diner,  at £27.50 per head for minimum of four.  Dog and/or children sitting service available on request. Travel cot available at extra £5 a night.

Location

Picture
The house was built 100 years ago in central nothingness, near the confluence of the Swincombe and West Dart, as a luxurious fishing lodge.

Return from your moorland wild and woolly adventures to crumpets by the open fire in the cosy sitting room reserved for guests - it's the perfect sanctuary.

Relax in the hot tub watching the stars, as birds and bats circle in the branches of the trees above, or enjoy a massage from our trained therapist on site.  Fishing, bird or badger-watching, riding, wild swimming, climbing, kayaking, walking, cycling and even two golf courses built into the moorland itself are all on the doorstep. Fine dining is just down the road, cosy pubs and cream teas are a walk away.

The back garden comprises all Dartmoor, wild  ponies, sheep and belted galloways at the gate, buzzards in the skies above,  trout and salmon to be fished from the River
Swincombe below. All very reminiscent of Scotland, yet only 20 minutes from the
A38 - the Exeter/Plymouth highway

Amazing Walks

Picture
The house sits in the centre of 365 sq miles of the Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by footpaths and bridleways north, south, east and west, on the high moor.  Three sets of stepping stones across the Rivers Swincombe and Dart lie within half a mile.

An hour's walk, and you will find yourself in the eerie village of Princetown and its famous prison. To the south is Fox Tor Mire, better known as 'Grippen Mire' in The Hound of the Baskervilles, when a man
drowned in it.

A gentle twenty-minute stroll takes you to The Forest Inn at the end of our lane,  forty-five minutes across fields and moorland and you can enjoy the ultimate lunch at Prince Hall Hotel, perfect cooking in gorgeous and very friendly ambience.

There is an acre of garden with mature trees and shrubs, wooden sunloungers, long table and benches, trampoline and hot tub, and an organic six acre field, with scores of different wild flowers including orchids, rabbits, foxes, badgers, deer, and buzzards galore!
